THE 2007 - 2008 SEASON OF PASSION
It’s an old theatrical adage "All you need is a plank and a passion."
This season Triad Stage has plenty of passion as we celebrate stories that burn red hot. Our 7th season is all about passion – not just passion of the heart, but passion for power, truth, family and treasure. Whether comic or serious, these plays are bold and infinitely compelling.
So let us ignite your passion. Thrill to the celebrated, daring acting and design that have earned us local, state and national praise. Fall in love with the art of storytelling. Let yourself be swept away.
We’ve got it all; families in turmoil, murder most foul, comic complications, conflicting convictions, heartfelt hymns and pirate adventures on the high seas. We’ve got classics, Broadway hits, and a World Premiere.
The only thing we’re missing is you. Take a look at what’s in store. And surrender yourself to the passion of live theatre.

MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION
Before It Was a Scandal, It Was a Family Secret
A Classic Comedy by George Bernard Shaw
January 27 – February 17, 2008
A mother with street smarts and a daughter with a college education go head to head in a comic battle that is still as provocative and amusing as when it scandalized the world in 1894. Shaw, a master of wit and ideas, creates an unflinching portrait of working women and the men who seek to love or control them. At first impressed with her mother’s grit and entrepreneurial zeal, proper young Vivie must confront the truth about her mother’s profession (the world‘s oldest) as she seeks to claim her own independence.

DOUBT
It’s a Question of Conviction
A Drama by John Patrick Shanley

Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award winning drama is the story of four people forced to confront their core beliefs. In a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, two nuns, a priest and a mother struggle with doubt and conviction when one of the school’s priests is accused of abusing a young boy. What should be done if no one is entirely certain of the truth? From the moment the curtain rises, audiences are caught up in a riveting debate that continues long after the play comes to an end.

Phelia, a girl born into the depths of poverty in the heart of the segregated South, finds her painful childhood and reckless adolescence are transformed by opportunity and courage as the Civil Rights movement sweeps through the Delta. Three actresses play all the characters- black and white, young and old, men and women who make this world come alive in an eloquent and impassioned journey filled with story and song.
BLOODY BLACKBEARD World Premiere!
One Pirate Still Haunts the Carolinas
An Adventure by Preston Lane
with Original Music by Laurelyn Dossett
June 8 – July 6, 2008
From England to the Caribbean to the Carolina Coast, Edward Teach forged a blazing career as the most dreaded pirate of all time. North Carolina’s infamous adopted son was a daring blend of terror and gallantry. To his victims, he presented an image of the devil incarnate; but he was putty in the hands of a beautiful woman. His high seas adventures, port city romances and deep buried treasure are the stuff of legend. The creators of Brother Wolf and Beautiful Star turn their attention eastward, weaving tunes and tales together and uncovering the mostly true and totally thrilling history of the pirate called Blackbeard.
